According to a new report, if the wages had risen at the same page as the housing prices in the UK, an average couple would be earning £44,000 a year more today.
The report states that if the salaries had risen as fast as house prices since 1997, people would be earning tens of thousands of pounds more each year. It showed that in most expensive region, house price-earnings gap reached the £100,000 barrier. The average annual household's earnings would have to be £158,000 higher than actual today in Westminster in London if wages rose along with the housing prices.

DNA data was brought together from more than 48,000 patients and 139,000 healthy controls from four different ethnic groups.

Washington, Feb 2 : Researchers have identified abnormal expression of genes, resulting from DNA relaxation, that can be detected in the brain and blood of Alzheimer's patients.
The protein tau is involved in a number of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.
Previous studies have implicated DNA damage as a cause of neuron, or cell, death in Alzheimer's patients.
Given that DNA damage can change the structure of DNA within cells, the researchers led by Bess Frost examined changes in DNA structure in tau-induced neurodegeneration.

Washington, Jan 31 : A new study suggests that children with depression are more likely to be obese, smoke and be inactive, which could show the effects of heart disease as early as their teen years.
The research, by University of South Florida Associate Professor of Psychology Jonathan Rottenberg and his colleagues at Washington University and the University of Pittsburgh, suggests that depression may increase the risk of heart problems later in life.
The researchers also observed higher rates of heart disease in the parents of adolescents that had been depressed as children.

London, Jan 22 : A novel blood test that has the ability to distinguish - to some degree - patients with and without pancreatic cancer may be available soon, shows research.
"The test involving MicroRNAs - that regulate gene expression and play important roles in the development of tumours - could diagnose more patients with pancreatic cancer, some of them at an early stage," said the researchers.
They, however, caution that the findings are preliminary and further research is necessary to understand whether these microRNAs have clinical implications as a screening test for early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Investigators from the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, University of Minnesota surveyed 1379 participants from the Minnesota Adolescent Community Cohort who had never used e-cigarettes.
The initial baseline survey explored their opinions about e-cigarettes and their effect on health relative to cigarettes or their usefulness as an aid to stop smoking. Then, a follow-up survey conducted one year later asked participants if they had experimented with e-cigarettes.
